Once a Day Marketing™ featured video blog: Sensing Facebook Fatigue

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. Today is Digital Friday and we are looking at recent social media usage trends.

A year ago we released a blog about our perception of Facebook fatigue. A new survey conducted in early 2013 by the Pew Research Center confirmed that there was a slight drop in Facebook usage in 2012 compared to the growth of other emerging social media channels.

Tumblr, Instagram, Google+ Hangouts, WhatsApp, SnapChat and other social media platforms are seeing dramatic increases in user activity. For example, SnapChat reported 150 million snaps or messages in April 2013 compared to 20 million in October 2012, a 650% increase.

The key take away is that while a lot of people are still using Facebook, many are adopting other social sites for sharing pictures, videos and personal updates. Keep your eye on emerging social media channels to determine if you or your brand should be spending a bit more time there.
