Hello, I’m Jim Glover, “That Branding Guy” for Once a Day Marketing™. Today we’re sharing Part VI in our series on the fundamentals of marketing using the 7Ps with a discussion of Promotion.
Promotion is telling your customers about your products and services, their benefits and where they can be found.
In today’s world customers have numerous choices, the goal of promotion is to ensure that, at that time a consumer is making a decision to buy a product or service, customers and potential customers are thinking about your product or service and then make the purchase.
If they have money in hand and they know your product, but they’re not thinking about it at the time of purchase, you’ve missed that sales opportunity. It’s critical to promote your product to achieve mind-share, or top of mind.
A good promotion starts with being compelling; bland or generic ad copy won’t capture sufficient attention. The message has to be relevant and resonate with the target audience. Distribution of your marketing message has to be consistent and should be in front of customers frequently so when that customer decides to buy your product is sticking in their mind.
There are many ways to promote products including traditional and digital marketing. As a marketer, you have to cut through the clutter and effectively promote your product to target customers using the right channels.
When developing your promotional plan, be creative, have fun, and focus finite resources to reach your target audience. Keep track of results; no matter how good your promotion is, your audience will eventually tire of it. Continuously create new ways to push out your message so your product is top of mind with customers when they are spending their hard earned dollars.
