The Ristra Project Developed and Managed by NewMARC

Listen to our featured Ask Those Branding Guys™ radio show podcast: NewMARC and The Ristra Project

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. On our radio show Ask Those Branding Guys™, we discussed increasing brand awareness for a state-wide organization.

Joining us on the show were Tim Armer and Jeff Kiely, Executive Directors of the North Central Economic Development District and the Northwest New Mexico Council of Governments, respectively. These gentlemen represent the seven New Mexico Council of Governments (COGs) which have formed a new collaborative of local governments called NewMARC, the New Mexico Association of Regional Councils.

Even though their identity is not well known, these Councils have accomplished numerous high profile projects including the Rail Runner Express, sustainable water projects, extension of broad band access and numerous other efforts across the state.

Branding has been a challenge for the NewMARC members. They don’t have a strong brand image and generally prefer to give credit for successful efforts to the communities they support, however, they would like to increase brand awareness to the general public and the communities they serve.

NewMARC was created to enable to Councils to collaborate and drive forward common efforts, share knowledge and leverage best practices. Benefits to date include mutual support and ability to communicate proactively as well as developing a more comprehensive economic strategy for the state and drive forward investment in the future.

Communicating and networking as NewMARC and sharing information about their current Ristra Project, designed to tie together statewide economic development and other state projects and programs, have created increased brand awareness for their efforts and enhanced stature for their brand.

Kiely’s tips for organizations to enhance their brand include becoming much more market oriented and understand and speak to that audience. He also believes you have to constantly re-invent your organization and communicate that position to your audience.

Enjoy the show.
